QsNetII E-Series

Quadrics Stand-alone Switch configurations for 8-128-way clusters.

Closing the gap between high performance clustering and affordability Quadrics offers a number of stand-alone switch chassis based on its QsNetII technology in the range of 8-128 way cluster configurations, the E-Series (Enterprise).
The new product family combines ultra low latency and high bandwidth with cost effective configurations.

These systems are targeted at industrial level customers as well as research institutions. Potential uses for the new product family include dedicated ISV codes for industries such as aerospace and automotive. The QsNetII E-Series 8-way also represents an entry-level offer for end users to evaluate QsNetII as a viable solution for 32 and 64-bit commodity computing. The E-Series is supported under Linux for the Intel Xeon and Itanium® processor families and the AMD Opteron architecture. Support for other microprocessor architectures is under development. Quadrics software is an open source release that includes all drivers and libraries that enable parallel programs consistent with public domain job start up software. The Quadrics Resource Management System (RMS) is also available and enhances production level capability for such clusters.

Using clustering technology helps industries solve computational-intensive problems technology and is proved to be a very cost/effective solution.

Some applications require a large number of independent parallel tasks, others need to use all the processors in concert with each other and scale to thousands of processors. The right solution for these applications, where the nodes spend most of the time communicating, is a high performance interconnects, with low latency & high bandwidth so as to avoid "bottlenecks" , i.e. when the application suffers having to wait for the network. Choosing the right interconnect is the difference between getting 17% or 87% efficiency on performance, so that fewer host nodes are required to reach extreme levels of performance. Quadrics delivers low latency, high bandwidth, scalability and robust software to meet the demanding needs of the HPC industry, with QsNetII E-Series all this packaged in a very cost effective solution.

Performance alone, however, is only part of the equation. Quadrics' unique solution lies in combining the performance of its interconnect with a software environment that enables clusters to be used, administered and run effectively. This combination provides the critical production capability for cluster-driven computing.
